Melbourne to Sydney in three days – Metung

We woke up quiet early and checked out of the hostel, but left our bags there, so we could have breakfast nearby. I had chosen a place that was famous for it`good coffee and when we arrived there, there was a long queue of businessy dressed people waiting for their coffees. We got the last free table at the window and ordered some sandwiches and coffees.

You can drive from Melbourne to Sydney within nine hours, but we wanted to stay near the coast and check out the Ninety Mile Beach. Going that route takes about 13 hours. So we had planned to split the drive into three days with two nights at towns by the sea. The prices were quite ok, so we – yay – got rooms and apartments with bathrooms that we did not need to share with anybody. After that, we did not share our bathrooms for the rest of the tour.

After getting the car out of the parking garage, we got our bags and left Melbourne with the wish to return soon. I had not seen Sydney yet, but felt like it could not be better than this.

Going to Metung with a stopover at Ninety Mile Beach was four and a half hour drive, mostly inland.
It was cloudy, so we were not able to experience the whole Ninety Mile Beach feeling. There were only four more people out there walking by the ocean. We stayed some time, sat in the sand and walked up and down the beach, looking for some nice shells.

For lunch we stopped in Sale, a small town that – according to the Lonely Planet – is an ideal stop for food. The Redd Catt is a colourful decorated restaurant and café that offered tuna poké on today‘s specials. It was one of the best poké dishes I’ve had, since I came back from Hawaii.
The café was so nice and homey, that we even had a piece cake each and a coffee. Too much!

We arrived at Metung late afternoon. Our room was great. Apparently it was not the high season in the city and all other people were either 30 years older than us or workers that worked at one of the many road work sites we had seen.

As we were not very hungry after all that food in Sale, we walked along the city´s beach and saw some amazing birds that were not so happy with us coming that close.
Back at the hotel, we walked along the little port to the only restaurant that was open. There is another one in the town, but it was closed due to a fire, that destroyed quite a bit of it. After a little snack and some beers, we called it a night.
