The weather was super great, just perfect for a little stroll around Stanley Park by foot and bike. First I cycled all the way to downtown by mobibike to have breakfast and then walked by the seawall all the way into the park. At the entrance of the park I took another bike and made my way to the Prospect Point lookout. I took the little trails through the woods, because I wanted to check out Beaver Lake on the way. You have to cross a pedestrian bridge, which is kind of steep but gives you a nice amount of momentum. Turns out speed is the one thing you don’t need when cycling through wintery woods, because my front wheel got stuck in a pile of snow directly behind the bridge. I managed to survive but the seat slammed nicely into my lower back. Ouch! And even worse, there weren’t any beavers at Beaver Lake.
The view from Prospect Point was pretty, but I made my way back to the seawall, because I wanted to walk over to the totem poles and sit and stare into the sun a little more. At some point I felt my nose getting hot and for the first time in years I knew I got sunburnt… in Vancouver in the winter, after I’d spent two weeks in Hawaii. I tend to underestimate the sun when being in the city.. like two years ago, when Matt and me cycled Berlin and got a crazy sunburn. Since then I don’t even take a lunch break in the sun without SPF50.
I needed to go back home to have dinner and take a shower because I had tickets for the Bahamas concert at Queen Elizabeth theatre for the night. I got rid of the bike and walked downtown to find a bus that would take me home. I took the car to the venue so I wouldn’t need to wait for the bus in the freezing cold after the concert. I was early enough to find parking easily. My seat was perfect and not too far away from the stage. After the support band was done, my bag of popcorn was already empty. The concert was so great, that people would not keep sitting on their seats, but started to dance. It was the perfect ending for a very relaxing and sunny day.
