Kangaroo Island – day 2

It was cold, where the lodge was, so we left the heater running all night. I Slept well, but dreamt weird stuff.
We got up at 7 a.m., because we had to be all packed and ready at 8. Breakfast was served in the community room/kitchen of the logde. I had Weetbix, something I haven‘t had in years, but that I used to have for years every day, when I was in my early twenties… mmmh.

Our first stop was a wildlife sanctuary, where we saw heaps of mama koalas and baby koalas in the trees and a couple of shy kangaroos. We had a stroll araound the park and then sat down in the souvenir shop for a good old flat white.

After that we drove a short distance to the Remarkable Rocks, that are huge formations above the coast and that are covered by orange coloured lichens. We had roughly 45 minutes to walk a climb around the rocks. Camilla and I thought we would not need that amount of time. But then we first met them… the instagamers. I like my photos best with no people at all in them, or at least with people that move around naturally. So we spent some time waiting for the insta-husbands to finish their sessions.
The rocks are really remarkable and huge, with lots of winding ways around them.

Admirals Arch was our next stop. You need to walk a lot of stairs down to see this amazing spot. It looks like a spooky old stone gate with seaweed all over it. In it‘s shade there were some seals sleeping.
On the way up, we sat down on a bench to watch the waves for a little while.

From there we drove to the north for some more amazing lookouts. We went to Snelling Beach, which was beautiful. One has to walk along a narrow path between some rocks to get there. Some of us had a swim or an ice cream from the nice little café close by.
Soon we had to go back to Penneshaw. Kate let us get off the bus in „the city center“ of Penneshaw to get something to eat. Camilla and me thought we could check out our options and have a look at the different menues first and then decide what we liked. It turned out to be a bad idea, because suddenly a couple of other tour busses appeared out of nowhere and spilled out their passengers and soon all the restaurants where filled with people. No chance we get something to eat before the ferry would leave. We bought some unhealthy snacks at the terminal and ate it on the ferry

On the 1 1/2 hours bus drive back from Cape Jervis to Adelaide was bumpy and we could not sleep. Back at the hostel, we checked in and moved into our room.
