Going to Australia

Camilla arrived Friday afternoon, when I was home for an hour to let the handyman in. I went back to work and she spent the afternoon and early evening on my couch.

We got up at 4:30 a.m. because the plane took off at 7:05 a.m., and took a taxi to the airport. I‘ve never spent that much time waiting in line at Tegle airport. We arrived at 5:30 a.m. and had to rush after the security check as the plane was waiting only for us. So no morning coffee for us!

When we got off the plane in Heathrow there was only one goal: breakfast! In between all Gucci shops the and taxfree shops, we found what we were looking for… an italian restaurant serving english breakfast and eggs florentine. I thing the only italian meal they had was the tiramisu… something we might have ordered afterwards…

Our next flight was to Perth – more than 16 hours. Shortly after we took off, they switched of the light in the cabin and darkened the windows, which was strange, because for us it was noon but also clever because in Australia it was in the middle of the night. We had wine with our lunch.. whhooohoo.

Anyway I was not tired so I watched a lot of series that I didn‘t know or had heard of but never tried. After six hours I decided to try sleeping as well. Next thing I know is being waken up carefully by Camilla, but being very grumpy because I was completely knocked out. I haven‘t had a good night sleep in a couple of weeks, so my body must needed to catch up on some. The eye mask was crazy tight and I had some problems seeing afterwards.

In Perth we had to get through customs, showed our boots which no one really wanted to see, and felt sorry for the mother whose son threw up all over her cabin luggage in the immigration queue.

Next stop was Adelaide where we picked up the car and checked into the hostel. It was late and we were hungry. There was only a kebab shop nearby. Never ever french fries with chicken salt again! Well the cockroach next to our table seemed to like the food. It had some leftovers off the ground.

Back in the hostel we fell asleep fast.

We slept great and only woke up, because we had set an alarm to keep us from sleeping too long and mess with our jetlag. After a shower we went to get some SIm cards for our mobiles. That took a littel longer than expected, but in the end we got one each but by different providers, which might turn out handy at some point. After that we had some breakfast at an italian bakery. It was hot as hell and my ten layers of sunscreen where sticky on my skin.
We both did not feel like shopping so we went down to the university, over the campus and to the river to take a boat to the zoo and walk a little in the park.

We walked back through Rundle Street with it’s nice shops and restaurants slowly back to the hostel to rest a little.

It was dinner time and we were feeling the urge for burgers. Bread and Bone is a great restaurant with an even better playlist… only hits. I had a local yummy IPA. Strangely enough, we did not sleep a single minute that night. Jetlag 1, us 0.

Every post without an egg benedict or egg florentine is wasted time 😉
