Monday
I was lazy, today. I walked to the Café near the campground that was closed the day before to have the worlds best eggs benedict ever… and I’ve had many! There was raw tuna on the muffin as well. I couldn’t empty the whole plate with two eggs AND breakfast potatoes. I haven’t eaten anything since then and it is 6 p.m. now. After that I lay at the beach and read my Hawaii revealed travel guide which I got recommended by one of the girls from work. It really is better than the other guide I bought. I made some plans for the next days on Maui. Time goes by very quickly here. Maybe it is because I am still jetlagged and go to bed at 8 p.m. and wake up at four but then snooze until 8 a.m.
I moved into Lahaina Beach House today where I will stay in a dorm. The place looks very nice and Guyton the host is lovely. After I came back, the other three girls had moved in too. It is a nice crowd at the house with Australians, Brits, French and Germans. We sat in the kitchen and talked until 10 p.m.. But that did not change the fact that still wake up at 4 a.m.
Tuesday
Oh I wish he had not squeezed me into the kayak tour. The day started with cloudy skies. I was hoping for better weather for my first time snorkeling. I had to rush to breakfast, because I lost time during the backup of my phone before I put it into the (hopefully) waterproof case. That took a while. I went to Leoda’s again – the café near the campground. This time I tried the coconut french toast with strawberries. The plate arrived with three slices of coconut coved bread as thick as my thumb… seriously, whatˋs with those portions? I gave up after I ate one slice. They have good coffee there, too. It is from Maui, of course. I really can not buy any more coffee or the canadian/US customs people wonˋt believe that it is not for trade.
We were four people (a couple from Alaska, Tim the guide and me) and went out with three kayaks. The sea was messy with big waves. I was happy… yet. We started to look for whales but could not see any. Then it was time to snorkel. I tried it and noticed that my mask was leaky and I panicked. Tim gave me his mask that was way better. After a couple of fast breaths I started to enjoy what I was seeing and got more confident. I did not take any pictures because I was too busy breathing. I don’t know how long we went on like this but at some point I felt nauseous. It got worse every minute and to prevent anything ugly happen to my rental snorkel, I went up and swam to my kayak. Tim had told us how to get back in. I got in, but somewhere on the way my hand slipped of the kayak and I smashed my chin on the side of the kayak. I was so busy being sick from moving up and down in the kayak that I didn’t feel the pain. But then I tasted blood. I got concerned instantly and let my tongue slowly count my teeth. All there. Tim was not happy with the weather situation and decided we got back to the beach. I didn’t care, I was thinking about how I might look like with a dead blue tooth. After we arrived, I had to sit down for a while. I was so sick… no way I would get on that kayak again. Tim offered me to give me a kayak for free tomorrow to got out alone again. Let’s see. I am used to paddle a kayak on the ocean… must have been the excitement.
After I was able to get up straight without having to concentrate on my stomach, I went back to the beach house, had a shower and looked for dentists in the area. Long story short – filling out the questionnaire at the clinic before I could see a doctor, took twice as long as the examination itself. My teeth were fine, I bit my lip. I might just end up with a blue chin. The lady didn’t even charge me anything. Normally I let my friend Steffi injure herself on holidays. That is how I know that they show telenovelas in the waiting room in Costa Rica and that I make a pretty good nurse during minor surgeries.
Tomorrow I will go back to Kahalui to go to Haleakala. I hope I will catch some sun at the beaches further north, before.
