Say hello wave goodbye

I got up early, to catch my flight to the Big Island. The rain had stopped, but you could feel that there was more of brutal rain to come. The air was heavy and dense as if I was inhaling soup. My flight was at ten and after I returned the car I checked in. The lady at checkin asked me the usual stuff, but then looked at me and asked me if I had any cocain on me. I started to laugh and she said, they had to ask in case a bag looks like a hiking bag. I wasn’t aware that hikers were especially prone to using cocain.

It is forbidden to take food onto the plane, especially fruit. I got worried about my avocado that I had found perfectly ripe this morning, but the guy at the security desk told me it was fine as long as I stay within the islands. You are not allowed to take any fruit to the main land.

the flight was short. I was able to see Haleakela summit, when we flew above the clouds. It was way more humid on the big island and I soon would learn why this was the case. I picked up my rental car and checked in to my Airbnb. Chad and Frances have a beautiful home in Kona. He is a dive instructor and drives the biggest pick up car that I’ve ever seen. My room was very nice. When I told Chad that I like walking, he recommended not to do that in Kona, as the downtown area was 4 miles away and there are not street lights at night. He recommended some places to have food and told me about the farmers and crafts market that was currently on. I spent the whole evening walking up and down the market, having some delicious Poke and sitting at the beach, which is opposite the cafés and shops. The town reminded me of Lahaina, the same souvenir and little craft shops and heaps of tourists but I liked, that it was so close to the ocean. I could hear some hawaiian live music and followed the sound into the backyard of the Hulihe’e Palace, where hundreds of people sat on the meadow and listened to three musicians with tiny ukuleles and watched original hula dancers.

It began to rumble and the sky became dark at around six. There was lightning over the ocean and the sturm increased rapidly. I made it home, before the thunderstorm started. I talked to Chad about snorkeling in the area and he recommended some places, where I would be able to see turtles and dolphins. Fingers crossed, that the weather will get better tomorrow.
