Let’s get started

Okay, so this is my first post on my new blog. It is the continuation of my old „Bibu bei den Kiwis“ blog that I used to write while living in New Zealand over ten years ago and which was a present from my brother when I left. I loved writing about my everyday life overseas, but stopped after I came back to Europe.

My next travel will take me to Hawaii, Vancouver and Palo Alto. I will be gone for a month so there will be enough time to relax and forget about work and the frustrating weather. I’ve been wanting to go to Hawaii for ages now but never found anybody to join me, because it is so far away. As the alternative destination was and always is New Zealand, there was no „too far away“ for me. Sitting in my room in my parents‘ house at christmas, I decided I wouldn’t wait any longer and go by myself. In Hawaii I can do everything that I love, which is hiking, cycling, surfing and getting annoyed by the wind that blows sand all over my freshly sunlotion-ed face.

Packing is kind of a challenge, because I will go through at least two seasons. Hawaii will be both hot and rainy, Canada will be cold and rainy, maybe even snowy and Palo Alto will be something in between and not rainy at all. In addition I will spend some time in Vancouver and I don’t want to blow of my german cover because I am wrapped in Goretex from head to toe.

Update Tegel Airport 8:30 a.m.:

Ok, so I am at Tegel airport now and need to digest my first shock. The lady at the check in just told me that her system tells her that I donˋt have a valid ESTA. Well I do have one, of course, but despite the printing frenzy I went through yesterday, I forgot to print that specific piece of paper. Honestly I didn’t really want to print it, because NO ONE has ever wanted to see it when I have travelled to the US in the past. So I managed to pit my t-shirt out with panic sweat before even getting on the plane… and we all know… it is the worst kind.

I look like a hobo. Due to comfortibility reasons I am wearing a skirt, that I honestly think I have put in the flea market bag several times, but who manages to magically finds it way back into my wardrobe. I will leave it in Hawaii this time. Take that!, ugly brown skirt! Plus, I am wearing my hiking boots, that might be a little over the top for Hawaii but who will be needed when I will try to find my way up the mountains around Vancouver.

My plane to Frankfurt is boarding in 3 minutes. See you later.
