Room with a whooo!

I must admit that I suffered during this journey. There was no free inseat entertainment and I really like watching movies during flying. I was totally unprepaired and had no movies on my tablet and the kindle was not in my carry-on. Luckily I had Ernie from Seattle sitting next to me, who was very entertaining. He used to be in the army and has been living in Germany for 30 years now. He will be staying in the states for four months and had to carry like two kilos of pills with him, because of his health issues. When ever he made a really bad joke, he „itˋs the pills!“.

On the last flight to Maui that was another 5,5 hours from Seattle, I could not sit still and was tired at the same time. There was no Bernie to entertain me, only a guy who watched Takeshi’s castle on his tablet.
I got my rental car and managed to get to the hostel without any kind of internet connection for my Google maps. I told the hostel that I would be later than expected and even learnt the door codes by heart, but when I arrived all the doors were open. As the hostelworld website said, that my hostel is a party hostel, I took a single room, which is quite nice. I brushed my teeth and went straight to bed. My room is next to the bathrooms so there would be no party dorm people annoying me during my first night after being awake for more than 24 hours…. so I thought. After approx. 30 minutes I heard a girl and a boy walk by my window and what I thought was the rain outside, was them getting into the shower and getting lucky, too… Well, I had a good laugh. But… where else should they go? A dorm probably isnˋt the right call.

I am still jetlagged, but less than I thought I would be. It is 7 p.m. here now and I havenˋt had dinner yet. I thought, I would be in bed by now.

The hostel offers free pancakes in the morning and coffee. It is a five kilo bag of pancakemix that has to be mixed with water. They have two big crêpemaker plates as well. The smallest serving was one cup of pancake mix which is good for six pancakes. I thought Iˋd take half of it but forgot it immediately and ended up with a watery dough that I poured onto the crêpemaker. Not a success. In the end I had four nice pancakes and two platesized ones… and of course I ate them all.

I planned my trip, so I would have time to have a look at all the sights of Wailuku today and keep Kahului for tomorrow. But I already finished sightseeing Wailuku at lunch time, had a salad and then wanted to walk to Kahului. I love walking when I am in the city. My friends had to learn that the hard way. Steffi and I nearly melted, when I felt like walking from the hollywood hills to the walk of fame at 40°C and I have chased people all around Copenhagen in the middle of a light snow storm. Why not walk to Kahului in comfy 24°C then? Azi from my hostel said „you do not want to walk there“. I experienced, that American cities are not build to be discovered on foot (New York works though). I kind of hoped it was different in Hawaii. So I tried.

Ok, let’s start…

looks fine to me….

hmm… where is the sidewalk?

… there it is…

.. only two more miles… probably would have been healthier to take the car..

… aehm… I got there 20 minutes later by car.

Tomorrow I am off to Olowalu for two nights of camping.

Ok I have to leave the lounge area, beer pong is about to start.

It is Saturday now, I fell asleep before I was able to finish this post yesterday.

I wonˋt have Wifi on the campground, so see you in a couple of days.

Die Geschichte mit der Dusche gefällt mir 🙂 Herrlich. Nen bisschen eklig mit deinen Pancackes. Und, ich bin auch ein begeisterter Läufer! Hab noch viel Sodass. LG
